Orange County has dozens of print shops that can output a banner or a poster. But if you need graphics that are designed, printed, finished, and installed correctly — especially for vehicles, walls, windows, or events — the vendor you choose matters as much as the design itself.
Here's what to evaluate when choosing a large format graphics partner in Orange County or anywhere in Southern California.
The most important distinction in this industry isn't print quality (most modern wide-format printers produce excellent output). It's whether the shop handles the full workflow or just one piece of it.
Print-only shops output your files on a wide-format printer and hand you rolls of vinyl or finished panels. You're responsible for finding an installer, coordinating delivery, and managing quality between two vendors. If the color is off or the panel doesn't fit, the printer blames the installer and the installer blames the printer.
Full-service shops handle design, printing, finishing (laminating, cutting, grommeting), and installation as a single project. One point of contact, one timeline, one warranty. If something goes wrong, there's one call to make.
At Focus Graphics, we operate as a full-service shop from our facility in Irvine. Every project — from vehicle wraps to event graphics — is designed, printed, finished, and installed by our team.
Two certifications signal quality in this industry:
3M Preferred Graphics Installer — 3M's certification program for vinyl installers. Requires demonstrated proficiency with 3M materials and ongoing training. This certification matters because 3M's product warranty is only valid when installed by a certified installer. A non-certified installer voids the material warranty.
Avery Dennison Certified — Similar certification for Avery Dennison materials. Having both certifications means the shop can recommend the best material for your project regardless of manufacturer, rather than being locked into one brand.
We hold both certifications. Our installation crews are trained on the specific techniques required for each material system.
"Do you install, or do I need to find an installer?" — If they don't install, you're managing two vendors.
"What vinyl brand do you use for vehicle wraps?" — The answer should be a specific product name (3M IJ180Cv3, Avery Supreme Wrapping Film). If they say "premium vinyl" without a brand, ask again. See our cast vs calendered vinyl comparison.
"Can I see recent work in person?" — A reputable shop will have wrapped vehicles, wall installations, or event photos from the last 6 months. Check their portfolio for project variety and quality — our Mixcursion venue graphics and Dior DTLA activation are recent examples.
"What's your turnaround for a standard project?" — Most shops can produce standard signage in 3-5 business days after proof approval. If they quote 2+ weeks for a simple banner, they're either backed up or outsourcing.
"Do you handle permits and compliance?" — For outdoor signage, permits are often required. A full-service shop either handles permitting or advises you on requirements. See our signage regulations guide for more detail.
"What warranty do you offer?" — Materials typically carry a manufacturer warranty (3-7 years for cast vinyl, 1-3 for calendered). Installation labor warranties vary. We offer a 5-year warranty covering both.
Go local for quick-turnaround projects (banners, posters, simple signage), when you want to inspect print quality in person before installation, or when the installation site is nearby.
Go national for multi-site rollouts (consistent branding across 10 offices in different states), trade show graphics (your next show might be in Las Vegas, Chicago, or New York), and fleet wraps for vehicles dispersed across regions.
We're headquartered in Irvine and handle most production locally, but our installation crews serve all 48 continental states. Whether your project is down the street in Newport Beach or across the country in Manhattan, we manage it the same way.
